(NYT24) NEW YORK -- Nov. 12, 2002 -- NY-CRASH-MEMORIAL-2 -- On Tuesday, muffled sobs and raindrops on mourners' umbrellas were the only sounds during a moment of silence marking the first anniversary of the crash of the American Airlines Flight 587 jetliner that went down in a New York City neighborhood, killing 265 people. A dozen white doves were released into the sky at the crash site in the Belle Harbor section of Queens, and mourners left white roses in memory of relatives and friends killed barely two months after the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attack. Thomasina Monte, sat for hours prior to the memorial services at the site remembering her daughter, Diane Monte, who was killed aboard the flight. (Librado Romero/The New York Times)*LITE*
