(NYT39) WASHINGTON -- Nov. 6, 2002 -- ELN-DEMS-2 -- The Democratic Party turned on itself Wednesday in a bitter if familiar round of recriminations over what many officials described as an Election Night debacle. Democratic leaders said the outcome had left the party without any clear leaders and set back its hope of winning back the White House. One of the party's two most prominent elected leaders, Dick Gephardt, announced that he would not seek reelection as minority leader when House Democrats caucus next week. Gephardt vigorously denouncing the Republican version of the prescription drug plan, Thursday, June 27, 2002 on Capitol Hill. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle looks on at left.
