(NYT) LEXINGTON, Mass. -- Feb. 7, 2001 -- AUTHOR-SHAFIR -- The title of Rebecca Z. Shafir's "The Zen of Listening" may seem a tad esoteric, but there's nothing mysterious about this straightforward book and its down-to-earth author. Zen listening takes practice, more for some people than for others. After all, the last thing certain people want is a vacation from their ego. "Poor listeners have very little patience with the present," says Shafir. Shafir practicing martial arts in Lexington, Mass., which played a role in developing the concept for her book.
