FILE -- Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, who is training to break the mythical two-hour marathon barrier, in Berlin, Sept. 12, 2018. Kipchoge ran 26.2 miles in a once-inconceivable time of 1:59:40 in Vienna on Oct. 12, 2019. This run will not be recognized as a world record because it did not come in an open race and Kipchoge had a rotation of pacesetters to assist him. (Mustafah Abdulaziz/The New York Times)
