On Oct. 24, 2007, Holmes Comet erupted to a magnitude of 2.5, nearly a million times brighter than it's magnitude 17, 24 hours before. This is one of the most stunning cometary events in the modern history of astronomy. The comet is so far away that appeared star-like in this image, taken on Oct. 24 from Tehran, only few hours after the eruption started.
