Transmission electron micrograph of a stack of annulate lamellae associated with the nuclear envelope of a human oocyte. Annulate lamellae may occur singly, or in parallel stacks of thirty or more cisternae as in this image. In this view, the nuclear envelope is visible at the right and from the pores at the arrow, the apposed annuli form channels that can be traced deep into the array of parallel lamellae.
