In 2013, a founding population of 21 black rhinos was introduced to Borana Conservancy. Once they were settled and had established territories, the fence between Borana and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy was dropped forming one landscape; allowing the wildlife free rein over 90,000 acres. Together with Lewa, this ecosystem hosts a thriving community of over 247 rhino (both black and white), making this one of East Africa’s largest continuous rhino habitats. Horseback safaris allow you to journey slowly and more fully immerse yourself in the ecosystem you’re exploring. The concept of the horseback safari originated in Kenya back in the 1970s and has since expanded to a number of conservancies across the African continent. Since wildlife perceives horses as just another animal you can fly under the radar and experience one-of-a-kind close-up encounters from a horse-eye view.
