Sistine Chapel (Cappella Sistina). In 1508 Pope Julius 11 (1443-1513) commissioned Michelangelo to paint the more than 10,000 square feet of the chapel's ceiling. It took a dedicated fours years for Michelangelo to pain in fresco technique, over wet plaster, this Renaissance Masterpiece. Cleaning has removed centuries of soot and revealed the original and suprisingly brilliant colors of the ceiling and The Last Judgement. Rome, Italy. January 2005. Credit: McBride/face to face
