A painting of the Boston Massacre by the American artist Alonzo Chappel (1828-1887). On March 5th, 1770, five civilians were killed by British troops in Boston after an argument broke out between a sentry and a local merchant. The Boston Massacre, as it came to be known, was one of many events that eventually triggered the American Revolution.
