Albertus Magnus (1193/1206-1280), a Dominican friar and bishop who believed in the peaceful coexistence of science and religion. Medieval philosophers relied heavily on the works of Aristotle, whose system of logic had been handed down in the translations and summaries of Boethius and in the commentaries of such Arab thinkers as the Spaniard Averroes. Albertus Magnus was the first scholar to apply Aristotle's philosophy to Christian thought.
