Holocaust survivor Lea Zajac de Novera, 98, receives a kiss from her son, Hector Novera, during an interview with AFP in Buenos Aires on January 2, 2025. Zajac de Novera was born in Michalowo, a town in the province of Bialystok, Poland, on December 31, 1926. At the beginning of the war, she lived with her family under Soviet occupation until 1942, when she and her family were relocated to the Pruzhany ghetto. In 1943 she was deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, where she worked collecting rubble and sorting clothes of those killed in the gas chambers. (Photo by LUIS ROBAYO / AFP)
