A fox cub needed a helping hand from an RSPCA rescuer after she got her paws stuck between the slats of a wooden garden chair in Surrey. RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Chloe Wilson went to a home in Greenhayes Close, Reigate, on Saturday morning (20 July2024). She said: “We had a call from a member of the public who was really worried about a distressed fox cub who’d somehow managed to get both of her front paws stuck between the wooden slats of a garden chair! “When I arrived, the young female fox had cuts on her legs where she’d been pulling and tugging to try to free herself. “Another fox cub was hiding nearby so I suspect they’d been playing on the furniture when she somehow managed to get herself trapped. “I put on some thick gloves and approached the vixen slowly and, thankfully, was slowly able to lift her up and free her paws.” She had some open wounds on her legs so Chloe took her to Wildlife Aid Foundation, in Leatherhead, for treatment and rehabilitation. Chloe said: “I’m pleased I was able to help this fox, free her quickly and get her to wildlife experts for treatment and support. “When an animal is trapped like this it’s important to get them the help they need as quickly as possible - and sometimes we might ask members of the public to help the animal themselves. “But we wouldn’t ask members of the public to handle any animals that could be dangerous so, on this occasion, we were able to free the vixen without causing her further distress and without getting bitten. “But if you find an animal who is trapped and needs help - and you feel you can safely help them - we have step-by-step guides to help the public free animals from common scenarios, such as a hedgehog tangled in a football net or a bat trapped in a garage. “By working together, we can all help more animals, more quickly. We’re grateful to all animal-lovers for helping to create a kinder world for every kind.” Where: Reigate, Surrey, United Kingdom When: 20 Jul 2024 Credit: RSPCA/Cover Images **EDITORIAL USE ONLY.
