Germany, Berlin, 10 March 2016 55 year old refugee and former art teacher Mariam Zaza was born in Damascus, Syria. She came to Germany with her 29 year old son in November 2015. Her two daughters are still in Damascus. Mariam stays at DRK-Notunterkunft at 104 Ruschestrasse or German Red Cross Emergency Shelter, housed in the former headquarters of the GDR Ministry for State Security, more commonly known as The Stasi. The building lay empty for ten years before, in November 2015 it was taken over by the German Red Cross and the 13 story building is now a temporary shelter for 1300 refugees, including 700 children. The building is being refurbished to be able to take 2,500 people. The facility and services it provides costs the German tax payer ??Z1.5 million per month. Robin Hammond / NOOR
