Democratic Republic of Congo, North Kivu, Goma, May 2010 23 year Rachel Uwiduhaye and her 14 year old sister-in-law were cut with knives and beaten when they refused to have sex with 8 soldiers. The soldiers got their way and the 2 were raped by the 8 of them. ???It was I and my sister in law. She was 14 years old. There were 8 of them and all of them passed one after another. They bring us in the forest but they let my sister-in-law return home. As she couldn???t support the trauma and there was no hospital in the area, she couldn???t find medicines at the health centre, after 5 days she died.??? They took Rachel with them to their camp and she was made a ???wife??? of one of the soldiers and raped repeatedly by him. She managed to escape after 4 months. It took her a month of walking through the forest to get back to her village. She is pregnant as a result of being raped. An estimated 250,000 women have been victims of sexual violence during the Democratic Republic of Congo's civil war. As the chaos that accompanies war continues so does the rape of women in the area.
