Historie znad Mekongu - Vu Images
Cambodia, Sambor, June 23, 2009 Narine, 11 years old, Srey On, 11 years old, and Marya, 17 years old, child musicians at the Wat Sambor Temple. "After hours of navigation we arrived in the village of Sambor at nighttime. The music was flowing out of the Temple of 101 Columns. The temple, rebuilt today, had been razed to the ground by the Khmer Rouge, who wanted to eradicate what they considered as religious superstitions. Under the iron rule of the old master, the child musicians play the samphor (drum), kong thom (gong), chhing (cymbal), sadeo (single string instrument), oboe, gamelan or bamboo xylophone. Norodom Sihanouk's portrait is illuminated vertically by a neon light, the only streak of light transpiercing the absolute darkness. The music is long, continuous, repetitive, just like daytime navigation, just like the embankments' monotonous infinity." L?m Duc Hien Lam Duc Hien / Agence VU
