At the top of the Arch of Neutrality stands a gold statue of the Turkmen pre sident for life, Saparmurat Niyazov. This statue slowly rotates so that it a lways faces into the sun. On the right of the Arch is the 1948 Earthquake Mo nument: a colossal sculpture of a bull holding the Earth on its head as a wo man clutches her golden boy in her arms. This monument also houses a small m useum dedicated to the earthquake that completely destroyed the capital and killed 100.000 people, among which Niyazov's mother.
