A Polish Soldier patrols the desert near the Sudanese refugee camp of the Oure Cassoni camp, in eastern Chad on March 12, 2009 three days before the end of a European Force (EUFOR) mandate towards the United Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad (MINURCAT), which expires on March 15. The government has asked Polish president Lech Kaczynski to retain troops in the area after the end of the EU's UN-approved mandate, when control of the mission will pass to the world body. The Polish contingent is the second-largest after France, in the European Union's peacekeeping force in Chad which also operates in Central Africa. AFP PHOTO / PHILIPPE HUGUEN
