Cypriot fighter Stelios Panayiotou battles a Thai Muay Thai fighter his first ever fight in Thailand at Rangsit Stadium. Stelios plans to return to Cyprus to open up his own Thai boxing gym. He lost the match on points. This family owned gym and stadium is one of the top fighting locations in Bangkok and has been open for almost 50 years. As well as Thais, every year hundreds of foreign fighters pass through their doors. Some come just to train for fitness, others to enter competitive Muay Thai events through the schools adjacent boxing stadium where Tuesday night live-to-air fighting events are a weekly occurrence. Muay Thai boxing is an ancient fighting form developed in Thailand developed by combining various other forms of SE Asian kickboxing. This brutal sport full of ancient traditions only saw the wearing of modern gloves during training and in boxing matches against foreigners less than 100 years ago where previously only rope-binding of hands was used. Thailand has around 60,000 Muay Thai fighters and is the lion's den for anyone wanting to be a success in the sport.
