Croatia, Osijek, 14 November 2017 50 year old Tatjana Ilic spent seven years inside Cepin Home for Adults with Mental Health Problems before moving into an apartment in the Croatian city of Osijek in 2012 as part of deinstitutionalization program led by the director of the ???Center For Providing Services In The Community,??? Ladislav Lamza. ??sI was taken to Cepin against my free will??? she says. ??sI had taken some medicine prescribed by the doctor without food. I couldn???t wake up the next day. My mother called the police when I didn???t answer the phone. The police came, took me to the hospital, and the doctor in the hospital sent me to the institution. They took my legal capacity from me. I woke up lying on the bed of the institution. They put me in a room with four or five other women. One was shouting all the time ??" day and night. I couldn???t sleep. I was hit by that woman. We were fighting and yelling all the time. I was so desperate. I became depressed and I didn???t want to eat or drink. I stopped having any contact with other people in the institution. Despite all the people in the institution I felt all alone in the world.??? Tatjana discusses her mental health while in the institution: ??sBefore going into the institution I had problems in my marriage which made me depressed but my depression got much worse in the institution. Before the institution I got depressed but always found a way out, but in the institution there was no way out.??? She adds, ??sI was depressed all the time in there.??? Tatjana, speaking about life outside the institution says: ??sI feel born again??S I feel fine now, only that I miss my daughter who is in Austria.??? Speaking about her current mental health: ??sI feel too busy to be depressed now.???
