Pictured: Phil Hammond in (yellow and black coat) in 2005 for the Battle of Trafalgar, 200th anniversary service in London. HMS Belfast on the right. A Royal Navy veteran's son who rescued a Dunkirk 'little ship' from being used as firewood is appealing for help in his 25 year quest to restore the boat back to its former glory. Philip Hammond originally saved the Southern Queen - a vessel that rescued hundreds of troops during the famous World War Two evacuation - from being burnt at the end of the 90s. The 82 year old was able to get the ship back to a functioning state meaning it could sail back to the French port for its 70th anniversary in 2010. However, engine issues meant the ship was taken out of the water and after spending several years in storage it fell apart to such a degree that its condition was assessed as 'terminal'.
