This is a view of the Monsanto Chemical plant, shown April 2, 1948, nearly a year after the disastrous explosions and fires that destroyed parts of Texas City, Tex. Monsanto purchased 57 acres of land (left) and began giant expansion program in conjunction with reconstruction.
