This is a view of the Monsanto Chemical plant, shown April 2, 1948, nearly a year after the disastrous explosions and fires that destroyed parts of Texas City, Tex. Monsanto purchased 57 acres of land (left) and began giant expansion program in conjunction with reconstruction. Photo was made from the top of a grain elevator which was severely damaged in the disaster and is not now in operation. Galveston Bay is in deep background. (AP Photo)
