A banner depicting Russian President Vladimir Putin as a skeleton or death against a red background is seen hanging from an exterior side of the Pauls Stradi?š Museum of Medical History across the street from the Russian Embassy in Riga, Latvia, on Mon., May 9, 2022. The image, also called a "death's head," first appeared as a cover of the independent Latvian newsweekly newspaper/magazine Ir when Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, and the banner appeared on the museum exterior in early March 2022. Along the sidewalk near the Putin banner are other anti-war and anti-Putin posters, banners, and displays.
