Afghanistan, kabul, 25 September 2020 Portrait of Ahmad Massoud, son of the famed Afghan resistance leader Ahmad Shah Massoud, photographed in his home. His father, Ahmad Shah Massoud fought the Soviet invasion from the Panjshir Valley in the 1980s and then led the Northern Alliance against the Taliban after they took control of Kabul and much of the country between 1996 and 2001. Massoud was assassinated by two al Qaeda members impersonating journalists on September 9, 2001. His son, Ahmad Massoud, has returned from studying abroad in recent years and plans to take up his father's mantle.
