American troops have been stationed in Iceland, as part of the far-sighted plans of the U.S. to ensure all possible aid to Britain in her war effort. Supplies for the maintenance of the troops were landed on August 8, 1941 at Reykjavik from cargo boats which arrived with the men. American Navy men rest under the monument of Jon Sigurdson, the national hero of Iceland, having been joined by some English Royal Air Force officers. (AP Photo)
