Belgium's Olivier Gendebein, in a works-entered Ferrari, crosses the finish line to win the 24 hour endurance race for sports cars at Le Mans, France on June 22, 1958. Gendebein and his co-pilot, Phil Hill of Los Angeles, covered 2,548 miles at an average speed of 106.2 miles an hour. There was one fatal accident and several other crashes during the race, which for much of the time run in rain and mist. (AP Photo)
