These coins are the discontinued denominations of regular issue of U.S. coins in the collection owned by Glenn B. Smedley and G.R. Ostrander, who combined their rare coin collections and displayed them at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, April 4, 1947. Top row, from left: a 20-cent silver piece issued in 1875; a half-cent piece issued in 1853, made of copper; and a 2-cent piece made of bronze and issued in 1864.
