Mandatory Credit: Photo by Oliver Dixon/Shutterstock (12855450c) The Flying Scotsman, the world's most famous steam locomotive, photographed by drone this morning near Tonbridge whilst on its way to Canterbury, as it made its first journey to Kent for the first time in at least 50 years. *Note second edit of this image with 'tilt shift effect' to emphasize the train* This will be the steam locomotive's penultimate trip before coming off the tracks for an overhaul prior to her centenary year and celebrations in 2023. The locomotive set two world records for steam traction, becoming the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at reaching 100 miles per hour on 30 November 1934, and then setting a record for the longest non-stop run by a steam locomotive when it ran 422 miles on 8 August 1989 while in Australia. The train was then retired from regular service in 1963 after covering 2,076,000 miles. The Flying Scotsman visits Kent for first time in 50 years, UK - 17 Mar 2022
