Some of the mysteries about the contents of the home of the Collyer brothers on upper Fifth Avenue in New York, Nov. 18, 1942, were dispelled when authorities, armed with an eviction order, authorized Joseph Cohen, disappearing through window, a carpenter, to open a door from inside. Deputy Sheriff H.A. Murwaty, right, directed Cohen. The Collyer brothers, Langley and Homer, the latter reportedly blind and an invalid, were saved from eviction by Langley signing a check to free the house from encumbrances. (AP Photo/John Lindsay)
