AP Historical Hard Drive 2009
This was the setting in the second inning of the World Series opener, Oct. 5, 1938 in Chicago when the Yankees manufactured their first run. Gehrig was on third base after walking and advancing on Bill Dickey???s single. With a man on second and third, Selkirk, at bat, bounced to Billy Herman. Herman fumbled the easy grounder and Gehrig raced home. Dickey scrambling to third, Selkirk made first easily. A few seconds later, Gordon smashed a hard roller through Hack near third and the second run of the game went over. (AP Photo)
