Children of all races white and Asian carry banner demanding the release of their parents, in a demonstration outside the city hall in Johannesburg, South Africa, May 14, 1960. The children were protesting the detention of their parents under the present emergency regulations in the union of South Africa. While a small deputation was in conference with Mayor Alec Gorshel, police herded more than 20 children into patrol vans and took them to jail for questioning. The youngsters were later released. Their parents are among the 1,700 adults of all races jailed as ?subversive.? They can be held indefinitely without trial. (AP Photo)
