U Saw, prewar premier of Burma, walks from his cell in the Insein Jail on Nov. 1, 1947 reputedly the third largest jail in the world and the ??stoughest??? in Burma, to the jailhouse court for his trial on charges of murder and conspiracy. U Saw was described by the Advocate-General, U Tun Byu, as the ??schief conspirator??? who ??splanned and directed??? the murder of U Aung San, deputy chairman of the Governor???s Executive Council, and six members of his cabinet. U Saw still hopes to get defense counsel from the United Kingdom. Because of his status in the country, U Saw is the only one of the eight prisoners to enter and leave the court unmanacled.
