AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
Two former cabinet Ministers, Thakin Ba Sein and Saw San Po Thin, a Karen, organized a demonstration outside the Rangoon secretariat on March 14, 1951, while their representative in the Burmese Parliament vainly tried to interest the house in a no-confidence vote against Thakin Nu socialist government. Nearly 1,500 Burmese and Karens, some wearing their traditional robes government slogan till they learned the no-confidence move had failed. Photo shows a group of Burmese and Karen women screaming defiance at the armed guard watching them from behind a barb-wire stockade outside the Rangoon secretariat. (AP Photo)
