AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
This is an illustration of the New Jersey Turnpike, Oct. 12, 1949. One hundred and eighteen miles without a stop, thats what the New Jersey turnpike authority says its modern Magic Carpet will provide vehicle owners when it is completed late in 1951. The authority says it will have long sight distances, wide travel lanes and shoulders, easy curves and no crossroads, with fifteen traffic interchanges where vehicles may enter or leave. The turnpike will connect with leading highways to seashore resorts east, and to other points west. (AP Photo)
