Why the crew of the S-4 were helpless to save themselves is shown in this picture. The irregular object running the length of the right side of the compartment above is the ventilator duct which collapse. The duct runs along just above the lockers at the right. It may be further identified by the object that appears like a ver large letter U, which lies upon the midsection of the duct??S into this duct water forced the curtain and the flag which clogged an after bulkhead valve, preventing its closing and forcing abandonment, of the control room shown March 23, 1928.
