Newly ground sugar cane goes through the grinders as mill owners are grinding the cane earlier than ususal to meet the war needs of the Allied nations in Havana, Cuba, March 5, 1942. The rich cane is ground into a pulp from which syrup is extracted for the manufacture of alcohol, from which explosives are made. Cuba has sold ot the United States its entire crop of 3,600,000 tons, reserving only 200,000 tons for domestic sugar and alcohol needs. (AP Photo)
