House Public Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Steve Holland, D-Plantersville, left, shows off the 10 medications needed daily by Jane Powell, 75, of Jackson, right, Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Capitol in Jackson, Miss. Holland is among the House members who voted 108-0 Tuesday to ask Gov. Haley Barbour to add reconsideration of Medicaid to the agenda of the special session that started last week. Holland says he regrets supporting Medicaid legislation that allowed for the removal of 65,000 recipients as part of a cost saving measure. Most of those people removed are supposed to be picked up by the federal Medicare program. Powell says she's scared about what will happen when she loses Medicaid coverage. She said she takes 10 prescriptions for heartproblems, osteoporosis and other ailments, and she believes Medicare won't pay enough to cover her medication expenses.
