Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned as head of the IMF in May last year after being charged with attempted rape, gave a private speech about global economics to hundreds of student members of the Cambridge Union Society, on March 9, 2012. The charges were later dropped by prosecutors in New York as inconsistencies emerged in the evidence given by Nafissatou Diallo, the maid he was alleged to have assaulted. Outside around 200 local residents and members of the student union?s women?s campaign mounted a protest march. They believe the 62-year-old, who faces charges linked to prostitution and corruption, should be banned from appearing at the venue.
