Historian, publicist and former Polish foreign minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski (c), 1996 laureate of the Duesseldorf Heinrich Heine award, is flanked by Paris archbishop, Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger (l) who held the honouring speech, and the mayor of Duesseldorf, Marlies Smeets, during the awarding ceremony here 13 December. Bartoszewski received the award for his life-long standing up for international understanding and human rights.
