Gulf of Mexico - 12/13/2016 - Jon Hebert, an Electronic Technology Advisor, walks through a narrow tunnel that connects two of the circular steel columns that support the floating Mars platform. Each column is are 66.5ft in diameter and 162ft high. Mars is a permanent offshore drilling and production tension-leg oil platform (TLP) operating in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 130 miles southeast of New Orleans. The platform began production on July 8, 1996. It is positioned in a water depth of 896 m (2940 ft) and is designed to produce 220,000 barrels (35,000 m3) of oil and 220 million cubic feet (6,200,000 m3) of gas a day. The Mars platform was built to accommodate a maximum of 180 personnel at a time.
