Falling asleep on the grass
JAPAN THE LAZIEST little Ezo red fox was captured sunbathing under a bed of Ramanas roses in Hokkaido, Japan.
A slight smile forms on the almost serene face of this four-month-old fox, clearly enjoying the smell of flowers and a comfortable bed of flora.
The Ezo red fox is a subspecies of red fox widely distributed in Hokkaido, Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and the surrounding islands of Japan.
Ezo is a Japanese word meaning "foreigner" and refers to the historical lands of the Ainu people to the north of Honshu, which the Japanese named Ezo-chi.
Their habitat ranges widely from grassland to alpine belts in Hokkaido.
Ayami Kawai, a wildlife photographer from Sapporo, Japan, captured these images.
“The little fox was waiting for his mother along with his brothers, and while waiting, he became sleepy and dozed off on the grass,” she told mediadrumworld.com.
“I knew that baby foxes in the wild are less wary than adult foxes, but I was very intrigued to learn that they can sometimes be so carefree, but it also made me a little worried for their safety.
“I used a Sony Alpha 9 II with the FE 100-400mm lens to capture these images.”
