Those performing at the event in honour of the former South African President included Carla Bruni, the wife of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The tribute, which took place at Radio City Music Hall, was hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. Other celebs taking part included Aretha Franklin, Wyclef Jean, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and Will.I.Am. Meanwhile, Hollywood stars who turned out to show their support for Mandela and his 46664 charity foundation included Forest Whitaker, Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Mandela was not in attendance at the celebrations as his doctors have advised that he no longer travel internationally.
