Zakon w Serbii - Redux
An artist's paints and brushes surround an icon painting at Kovilje Serbian Orthodox monastery. Such work is commissioned by church patrons and provides income to the convent facility. Founded in the 12th century and dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel, with later additions dedicated to St. Nicholas, the isolated rural monastery is home to currently nine women. Recruits ("Novices") to monastery life - throughout the Balkans - have dropped significantly in recent years. Reasons, say those in robes, stem from today's fast-past world and desire among youth for a more "open" and "mobile" lifestyle.
