Photograph by Horace W Nicholls, a photo-journalist who documented the First World War, including a famous series of pictures entitled Women at War, from which this example is taken. Nicholls also photographed the Boer War, the gold and diamond mines in Africa, and people at British social events such as Henley, Derby and Ascot.
