Guests arrive for the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 20, 2009. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmys went to great lengths this year to broaden the awards after the Emmy television audience shrank last year to its second-lowest total in history. (Only the 1990 telecast, with 12.3 million viewers, fell below last year's 12.4 million.) The academy expanded the number of nominees in 10 top categories, including best comedy and drama and the regular and supporting actor and actress categories.
