The production line for the Fiat 500 at the Fiat factory in Tychy, Poland in June 2009. This village set amid the rolling farmland of Silesia is home to Fiat's most advanced factory in Europe, and since the Italian automaker teamed up with Chrysler earlier this year, engineers from Detroit have been making monthly pilgrimages here to eyeball something they can only envy for now: an auto plant that's hiring workers and earning profits.
