Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong waves to well-wishers as he and his crew leave the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building towards their Saturn V rocket, at the Kennedy Space Center, July 16, 1969. Following Armstrong is Mike Collins, the command module pilot, and Buzz Aldrin, pilot of the lunar module. Four days later, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon.
