(NYT70) LAS VEGAS -- Feb. 10, 2007 -- BKN-LAS-VEGAS -- Joe, left, and George Maloof, whose family owns the Sacramento Kings and operates the Palms Resort Casino, in the Hardwood Suite at the Palms in Las Vegas in February 2007. For the first time, a non-NBA city will play host to the All-Star Game. Las Vegas, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country without a professional sports team, wants to showcase itself as worthy of becoming a full-time major league city. The odds, however, that the NBA or any other league will soon come to Las Vegas for more than just a vacation -- through relocation or expansion -- are low. For now.
