(NYT9) WASHINGTON -- Jan. 27, 2007 -- IRAQ-PROTEST -- Carlos Arredondo sets up a memorial for his son, U.S. Marine Cpl. Alexander Arredondo, on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 near Madison Avenue and Third Street on the National Mall in Washington. Arredondo's son was killed in Najaf, Iraq, by a sniper in August 2004. Protesters energized by fresh congressional skepticism about the Iraq war demanded a withdrawal of U.S. troops in a demonstration Saturday that drew tens of thousands and brought Jane Fonda back to the streets.
