(NYT21) HOOD RIVER, Ore. -- June 15, 2006 -- OREGON-FRUIT-TRAIL-3 -- Scarecrows greet visitors at Rasmussen Farms in Hood River, Ore., on Friday, June 9, 2006. For a weekend trip outside Portland, it is hard to resist the Hood River Fruit Loop, a loosely affiliated network of orchards, produce stands, berry farms and other related businesses in the Hood River Valley. Since the Loop was organized in 1993, it has grown into a popular weekend destination for young families, farmers' market connoisseurs and disciples of the evanescent Rainier cherry.
